Visit

Buckler’s Hard sits on the banks of the Beaulieu River in Hampshire, right in the heart of the New Forest National Park. We’re within easy reach of Bournemouth and Southampton, and an straightforward journey from London.

By Car

  • Use postcode SO42 7XB in your sat nav.
  • From the M27, leave at junction 2 and follow the signed route towards Beaulieu. Once you reach Beaulieu village, continue to follow the tourist signs for Buckler’s Hard.
  • The main car park opens at 10.00am, with last entry at 5.00pm. Exit gates are locked at 8.00pm and there is no parking overnight.
  • A small parking charge applies.
  • Marked bays are available for disabled visitors.

Motorhomes and vehicles towing caravans can use the overflow car park. There are no height barriers on entry or exit. Please note that overnight camping is not permitted, except as part of an organised caravan rally.

As you drive through the New Forest, please watch out for free-roaming animals such as ponies and donkeys, and follow the New Forest National Park Authority’s guidance for safe driving in the Forest.

By Public Transport

If you choose to travel all or part of the way by train, bus or ferry, you can receive 20% off our standard admission price. Just show your valid public transport tickets at the admission desk on the day of your visit. This offer cannot be combined with any other discount, including reduced family tickets or the river cruise.

Train

From London Waterloo, take a train to Brockenhurst. Taxis are available from outside the station, and a journey to Buckler’s Hard typically costs around £20. Alternatively, you can hire a bike in Brockenhurst and enjoy a ride through the New Forest to reach us.

Bicycle

The New Forest is ideal for cycling, and bike racks are provided in the coach park next to the main car park.

Walking

Buckler’s Hard is a favourite stopping point for walkers. There is a scenic 2¼ mile (about 1 hour each way) riverside path linking Beaulieu and Buckler’s Hard.

Boat

When approaching from the east, keep the lit south cardinal to starboard off Stone Point and steer to the vicinity of a lit, yellow special buoy close to the bearing to run in on. The bearing to run in on is 324º guided by the transit marks, the front mark is port post No.2 and the back mark is Lepe House.

The Buckler’s Hard Yacht Harbour is a pleasant 3.5 nautical mile cruise upstream.

Visitors are welcome to enter the river at any time, day or night, but please remember marina berths are only available if you have booked in advance. Report to the Harbour Master’s Office on arrival using VHF channel 68 and call sign Beaulieu River Radio.
